"True religious emotion must regard God himself as the highest joy; if the center of human emotion is not God but creatures, then it is false; only when God lives in the heart can people be satisfied, otherwise the soul will inevitably be empty."
— Jonathan Edwards

📖 Scripture Reference

Psalm 73:25-26 "Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is no one on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

💭 Reflection

If the human heart is not centered in God, it will constantly pursue creatures, yet remain empty. The psalmist declared, "Whom have I in heaven but you?" True religious feeling finds supreme joy in God himself, regarding Him as the strength of life and eternal blessing. Even if the body declines, if God dwells in the heart, the spirit remains satisfied. May we learn to abandon false reliance, rest our hearts in God, and find joy in Him alone.

🙏 Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I confess that I am often drawn to creation, seeking fulfillment in fleeting things, but often feel empty. Please redirect my heart to You, so that I may find my highest joy in God. In good times and bad, may You be my inner strength and eternal blessing. Help me to constantly delight in You in prayer and worship, so that my soul may be filled with Your presence. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
