"If we continue to tolerate racial, social, or other divisions in the church, while at the same time preaching that Jesus, through the cross, abolished the old divisions and created one new body united by love—that is contrary to the integrity of our faith and cannot be supported by a true Christian conscience."
— John Stott

📖 Scripture Reference

Ephesians 2:14-15 For he is our peace, who has made both one and has broken down the middle wall of hostility, having abolished in his flesh the law of commandments contained in ordinances; to create in himself one new man from the two, thus making peace.

💭 Reflection

Through the cross, Christ has broken down all barriers, making us new creatures in Him. If I still harbor prejudice, division, and estrangement, I deny the truth of the gospel. Church unity is not an option but a testimony to the gospel. If misunderstanding or hurt arises between brothers and sisters or co-workers, I should first reflect on how Christ forgave me, then embrace one another with His love, allowing the church to embody the Body of Christ in love.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, thank you for tearing down the walls of division through the cross, allowing us to be united in you. Please cleanse my heart of hidden prejudices and self-righteousness, lest divisions undermine your witness. Grant me a gentle and humble spirit, willing to forgive and reconcile. May your love flow through the church, uniting us so that the world may see and know that we are your disciples, bringing glory to you. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
