"They robbed me, but I am grateful: first, I had never been robbed before; second, they took my money but not my life; third, although they took everything I had, it was actually not much; fourth, I was the one who was robbed, not the one who robbed others."
— Matthew Henry

📖 Scripture Reference

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In all circumstances give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

💭 Reflection

Gratitude doesn't stem from favorable circumstances, but from a heart touched by grace. Matthew Henry could still count blessings even after being robbed because he understood that God's sovereignty cannot be taken away by circumstances. When we turn our eyes to God, we can see protection in loss and appreciate His love in suffering. A grateful heart allows us to see God's presence even in adversity.

🙏 Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your sovereignty in every circumstance of my life. Grant me a grateful heart, so that I can see your grace and protection in both good times and bad. May I learn to count the blessings in the midst of loss and praise your name in the midst of hardship. May my life be a testimony of thanksgiving in all circumstances. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.
