"God did not promise that the sky would always be blue or the flowers would always be fragrant; but His merciful words promise us strength in trials, comfort in sorrow, and light in darkness."

📖 Scripture Reference

2 Corinthians 12:9 He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, that Christ’s power may rest on me.

💭 Reflection

Although the elderly person's physical frailty was like a withered branch in winter, the sound of Bible readings was a deeper "pruning" of God's word. 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that grace is not about relieving illness, but about discovering that God's power becomes our strongest dwelling place in moments of utter helplessness. What people perceive as the end is precisely the turning point where Christ's power is fully revealed.

🙏 Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for leading us to serve our neighbors through labor. We pray that the Holy Spirit will work as that elder listens to the sermon, that your word may shine like light into darkness. Lord, though illness has robbed him of his strength, we ask that your "sufficient grace" sustain his soul. We ask that you not only trim the trees in his yard, but also personally soothe the fear in his heart. May he feel the protection of your nail-scarred hand in his extreme weakness, and may he encounter eternal peace and salvation at the turning point of his life. Amen.
