"We must always remember that Satan always disguises himself as an angel of light. Everything he presents seems reasonable... He offers what appears to be a wise path, a gentle path, a path of compromise and ease."
— Fulton J. Sheehan

📖 Scripture Reference

2 Corinthians 11:14 This is not surprising, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

💭 Reflection

Paul reminds us that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light; Fulton Sheen also said that the devil often tempts people with seemingly reasonable, gentle, and compromising methods. This reminder today serves as a wake-up call: temptation is not always obvious evil; sometimes it's a path that seems "more comfortable," "smarter," or "more flexible." Sometimes what I think is wisdom is actually laziness; what I think is self-care is actually an escape from the cross. True light is not the light that caters to the flesh, but the light that points to obedience to Christ. May I learn to discern, not be led astray by "gentle darkness," but persevere in walking in true light and truth.

🙏 Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for your light that illuminates my path, showing me that spiritual warfare is not an outward darkness, but rather a heartfelt desire for convenience, comfort, and compromise. Grant me spiritual discernment, so that I may not be led astray by beautifying temptations, nor mistake false light for true light. Holy Spirit, sustain me, enabling me to love truth more than feelings, and obedience more than fleeting ease. Prepare for me an upright and pure heart, so that I may not shrink back because of the difficulties of the road, nor be swayed by the voices of the world. May your light always shine at my feet, enabling me to stand firm in you. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
