1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Murady, on the turbulent front lines of missionary work, discerned a profound truth: God allows sorrow and suffering not as meaningless torment, but because our lives, on a spiritual level, "need" to be refined and expanded. The scripture's commandment to "give thanks in all circumstances" challenges our instinct to let our circumstances dictate our mood. Praise in times of joy is natural, but offering thanks during times of pressure, setbacks, or obstacles is the highest form of submission to God's sovereignty. When we can give thanks to God for sorrow as we give thanks for joy, we are fulfilling His good purpose in Christ.
Our loving Heavenly Father: Thank you for speaking to my heart again through the Word and the lives of the sages. Lord, my flesh often weakens and complains when facing the pressures, challenges, or sorrows of life and ministry. Forgive my narrow-mindedness. Today, I am willing to bring every difficult situation before You. I believe You love me completely, and these challenges persist because You know my life needs to be refined through them. Holy Spirit, grant me a perspective that transcends circumstances, not only to praise You with joy, but also to thank You with faith for the "adversities" I am facing. May You work in me for the good of all things working together for the benefit of all. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
